Four tips for businesses if they are looking to be more sustainable

I felt inspired to write a post about business and sustainability today. I am not a man of many words and today’s post is very much along this theme. Short, direct and honest. I hope that this post will be of interest to you if you are managing a business or you are being part of a business that is trying to be more sustainable.

If you are really interested in being a more sustainable business, the road in front of you will be a very rocky one. Businesses that are also keen to be as sustainable as possible are not the norm unfortunately. The purpose of this blog is to help and change this. So thank you very much for visiting our blog today. And thank you to want to know more about being a more sustainable company. We need more sustainable business now and in the future!

Four tips for businesses if they are looking to be more sustainable

  1. Communicate about what you are doing now: Consumer opinion is becoming more varied every year. If your brand is truly interested in Sustainability, you need to tell us what you are doing now about being a more sustainable business. This means you are not only reporting on what you have been doing and what you are going to do. You need to tell your stakeholders  what you are doing at the moment and how you will be reaching your set goals on a day-to-day basis. This is what makes a difference to them today. Not any empty words about where you want to go and what you want to do in the future. Actions speak louder than words. And if you are already doing something, you should tell your stakeholders about it. Communicate with these stakeholders as much as possible. They will be the ones supporting or buying your product tomorrow and help you become a more sustainable business.
  2. Consider becoming a B Corp: Has your business considered becoming a certified B Corp? If you generally agree with what the B Corp movement is about, then maybe this is something for your organisation. Transparency will be one of the most important factors for the future consumer. Being a certified B Corp is a huge step in being more transparent as a company.
  3. Join a group or network that will help you with your sustainability efforts: You do not need to go it alone when you want to become a more sustainable business. There are many sustainability minded business networks to choose from across the globe. All of them will want to help and assist you on your next steps.
  4. Be as personal as possible: Try to be as personal as possible when you are trying to sell your product. And do not try to sell at all costs. Stakeholders will notice and punish you for it in the mid and long-term. This also is an aspect of being a more sustainable company in my experience. We know you need to sell your product to survive as a business. And if we know you are listing to us we will buy your product even more.

Have a good start to the week everyone!
