UK: Marks and Spencer worst supermarket for packaging, study finds

While M&S has gone to great strides to improve its green credentials – most controversially charging for plastic bags – it lags behind Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda, Waitrose and Morrisons when it comes to packaging.

 

Its packs of bacon, punnets for mushrooms, and tubs for ice cream are all heavier than rivals' similar packaging, a study by Which?, the consumer body has found.

 

A two litre tub of ice cream weighed 83g, compared with Sainsbury's equivalent tub weighing 56.8g. Its bacon packaging was, again, 40 per cent heavier than Sainsbury's

Our opinion:
The amount of food packaging in supermarkets is appalling. This article outlines in an interesting way why green credentials of supermarket chain still seem to stop when it comes to food packing. There is still a lot to do by supermarket companies around the globe not just in the UK obviously.
