Eco-Friendly Advertising Boards

I currently work for a local government in Melbourne, Australia. As part of planning permit application process we are required by law to publically advertise any proposed developments. This involves placing a large A1 board on the property boundry for 28 days which lists the details of the proposal so that those in the area can be made aware of it.

At present these boards are corrugated plastic and due to accumulated damage these are regularly discarged as rubbish, thus contributing to landfill, increased resource consumption and the city's greenhosue gas emissions.

Does anyone know of, or can propose a more environmentally-friendly option for such boards?

Any information would be most appreciated.

How about an artical in the paper? Instead of the board? If not then what about changing the rules of how its done to allow it to also be posted in the paper That would go over the details? Then Use a smaller board to notify the public of the date in which paper it will be posted? At least news papers are usually recycled I hope.

The proposals are already advertised in the local press, with broader exposure for largers developments.

The boards are a seperate entity which are designed to advertise the proposal to those who live/work in the vicinity of the propety.

Then what of simply mailing the proposal to the people within the area using recycleable paper that can be recycled? inplace of the billboard?
