Default Australia's Shame - Green jobs lost due to inaction on climate change

The lack of certainly in Australia relating to future climate action from all levels of government has caused a number of green companies to go out of business.

It's not easy being green - Environment - smh.com.au

The state of New South Wales has the worlds first carbon trading scheme (GGAS), but since the Prime Minister, John Howard, announced a national scheme earlier this year (but refused to set any reduction targets before the coming election) the state's scheme has effectively collapsed due to market uncertainty.

This has resulted in hundreds of jobs being lost as various abatement companies lost their primary source of income when the carbon price fell to around A$6 recently.

This includes Easy Being Green (an abatement company that installed energy-efficient light bulbs in people's homes to generate credits) which shut up on Friday leaving hundreds of people out of work.

There has been no government support for these companies of their workers. While at the same time the government has released a multi-million dollar advertising campaign showing off how much they are doing about climate change.

Our government has forgotten that big talk needs to be followed through with action. Without measurable results anything they do is just a green wash and those who have tried to do the right thing have been abandoned.

It is a national shame.

Bring on the election!!!!
