Alternatives to BREEAM

Hi all,

Im new in this forum and hope to follow and help in whatever I can.

I work for a medium size building services consultancy located in Glasgow and have been working in the renewable sector for almost two years now. Just trying to "make things happen" and convince developers to incorporate energy efficiency and renewables is quite a task, let alone sustainability as a concept.

I wonder if anybody can help me with this. Somebody is asking me for alternatives to the BREEAM assessment methodology...as far as I am concern BREEAM shlould be the UK standard and its specific depending on building type. Is there any other alternative methodology in the UK? Any guide, reference, article etc will do.

As far as I know BREEAM is the most popular standard in UK. Another alternative is LEED from US, which has gained immense popularity. LEED has standard for different type of projects as well.

It's not easy to start implementing sustainability concept. I believe if we can translate the benefits in terms of money, people would be willing to implement the concept.

Well to be honest how good is BREEAM as a standard? Frankly it doesn't tick my boxes and achieving a very good standrard on BREEAm doesn't really amount to a real step forward in sustainable development terms. Still Construction doesn't really like to face up to sustainable development challenges does it!
