The future?
Based on present trends, do you suppose this is how two people sitting in the same room will hold a casual conversation with each other, in the future?

No I dont think so.
The internet and all will help people communicate globally but virtual world will never replace reality in my opinion.
We humans need to interact and the real way of interaction is face to face.
Thats my opinion.
What do the others think?

The last job I had in the UK before moving to france was like that. Not general chit-chat, but nobody would say anything work related without backing it up with an e-mail. It started off quite reasonably, in that someone would confirm something verbally to the person sitting opposite, but then the habit developed of confirming it via e-mail, then it became de rigour to confirm almost everything and then they starting taking the mickey. 'Coffee break?' etc e-mails were the norm.
It all stemmed from a lack of trust/co-operation, then throw in a hefty dollop of watching your back at every stage, always trying to cover your backside should someone mess up. Very sad and very inefficient. But very 21st century.

Nice topic here.
The future? Well I certainly hope it is a good one. I surely do not want my kids to only communicate in a non person way. But the internet is to important now to be ignored and I am only slowly catching up in terms of know how.
But I think we will only see the importance of the internet grow and thinks like micro blogging and social networks will become indispensible.
The future is here...........lets use it.

RE:
Nice points.
The advent of technology and a larger working force in my opinion may diminish in person communications. Its a given that people now a days work longer hours, more people are employed compared to 20 yrs ago and technology integration in our everyday life has increased vs 20 yrs ago. What does this all mean?
I feel more communication in future will be done over technology devices (ie. internet, cell phones, PDAs etc) and this is coupled with people having less "leisure" time due to people working longer and harder. Who will have time to meet in person if all these devices can help me do it today?
I can agree that it reduces human intervention and possibly reduce people skills. However, 20-30yrs from now, who knows, the standard may be to gain your people skills electronically. So much has changed over the past 20 yrs. I do wonder what the next 20 yrs will bring us as well.

Apart from technology, now people aren't satisfied with their belongings. They always want more and hence keep on working very hard. This leaves very little time for them for their family. So they forget friends and others.
Due to this they turned to SMS and Chatting and online networking... I think karl is more or less right in this matter.
