Play a pivotal role in embedding the UK sustainability strategy for an international mobile telecommunications provider as they aim to become Best in Class and ensure sustainability becomes a key differentiator.
Our client is a leading provider of mobile services to consumers and businesses in the UK. Along with mobile, it is also a foremost provider of broadband, non-voice services and data connections. Services are delivered in 5 European countries and through Joint Ventures.
The Company is just completing the development of its 3 year Sustainability strategy, an initiative being championed by the CEO directly.
They are now seeking a Head of Environment to develop, implement and manage a sustainability strategy for the UK business that ensures compliance with legislative requirements, embeds sustainability into the business and benchmarks us with other Best in Class companies and sees them recognised as proactive to their stakeholders, ensuring that sustainability becomes a key differentiator.
The job
To develop and deliver a sustainability strategy that ensures the sustainability of the Company and that is in line with both our public responsibilities and business strategy
Work with European teams ensuring UK participation and leadership regarding our international environmental policies/reporting/initiatives
To provide an account managed service to UK Directorates to ensure that their current and emerging sustainability risks and opportunities are identified and that the impacts are assessed and properly managed with supporting metrics to measure and manage performance
To set and measure UK KPIs in support of the Sustainability Strategy
To support a culture where all employees see sustainability issues as business as usual and understand how they can engage for environmental and business benefit
To ensure that the sustainability aspects of the UK Property portfolio are effectively outlined and a programme of work implemented to ensure concurrence with those requirements
To maintain a UK wide structure designed to ensure, as a minimum, ongoing operational compliance with ISO 14001 (2004)
Work with the Marketing and Device teams on simple, impactful propositions that support both our environment and business strategies
To establish, implement and operate an annual communications plan in support of sustainability objectives
To review, improve and audit the ISO 14001 requirements that the Company has of its supplier base, assuring that appropriate policies are in place and operated by the business
Ensure that all mandatory and legislative requirements are complied with, tracked and their impact on the Company fully assessed and understood
To act as the primary interface with the Environmental Enforcement Authorities and other external stakeholders
Ensure liaison with key industry organisations dealing with sustainability to ensure appropriate benchmarking of standards and operations
You
Have a proven track record of having worked in an environmental management role
Have worked with a leading consumer brand
Are a Chartered Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment or equivalent professional qualification
Have achieved within a blue chip corporate environment and have the ability to work and integrate activities with senior managers and stakeholders
Have an understanding and knowledge of ISO14001 and WEEE regulations
Are a strong communicator who can influence across functions and are capable of working at all levels within an organisation bringing your own credibility and gravitas
Possess the skills to prepare clear, concise, business focused reports with excellent presentational skills
Can demonstrate the ability to review, develop and implement internal strategies, processes and metrics to monitor and aid efficiency
Are competent in the use of IT tools, including MS Office systems, project management applications, Internet and e-mail
Hold a valid UK driving license and ability to travel within the UK is essential
