Overall Function:

The Director of Strategy is responsible for developing long-term strategy and plans to expand the impact, reach, and effectiveness of EDF’s Corporate Partnership Program.
Key Responsibilities:

The Managing Director, Strategy reports to and works closely with the Vice President for Corporate Partnerships to develop overall program strategic direction and new program initiatives, and to take advantage of program growth opportunities. Specific responsibilities include:

* Articulate program vision and goals and create short and long term strategies for achieving those goals.
* Identify internal and external resources necessary to achieve goals, and link resources to specific outcomes.
* Develop metrics and systems for measuring and communicating program results, both in terms of environmental outcomes and in terms of influence on corporate and government policies and actions.
* Identify trends in corporate social responsibility and sustainability, and adjust program strategies to capitalize on new opportunities presented.
* Develop new program initiatives to increase EDF leverage and visibility in the corporate community.
* Identify and manage opportunities for including EDF Trustees and benefactors in program activities.
* Develop plans for aligning fundraising strategy with program vision to create excitement and buy-in from funder community.
* Create opportunities for funders to assess the “return on investment” for their program donations to encourage increased giving.
* Collaborate with senior staff in other EDF programs to leverage corporate partnership strategies in support of broader organizational goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

This is a senior position requiring vision, creativity and organizational savvy. The ideal candidate will be well-grounded in business principles and have demonstrated success in planning for and building a growing enterprise. Specific qualifications include:

* An MBA or other graduate degree in business or policy
* A minimum of 10 years professional experience ( business, finance or management consulting preferred)
* Demonstrated success at scaling up an organization, building strategies and launching new initiatives for organizational growth and effectiveness
* Demonstrated ability to recognize and build on externally-generated opportunities for progress
* A working knowledge of strategic planning practice and theory, including scenario planning
* A self-starter with the ability to think creatively and the initiative to work independently while effectively functioning as part of a larger program team
* Exceptional written and oral communication and personal organization skills
* An understanding and appreciation of the value of environmental protection and the opportunities for business to solve the environmental challenges of the future
