London | Up to £50,000KOne of the worlds largest banks, whose work in the area of sustainability is second to none, has a rare opportunity for an experienced Supply Chain & Purchasing Manager. The prime focus of the role is to provide a professional procurement strategy and advisory service to the banks purchasing functions on sustainability and ethical sourcing. Balancing both financial and sustainability/ethical trading objectives is integral to this role.
The ideal Candidate will be responsible for determining sustainability strategy for buyers in over 60 territories around the globe to adopt and follow when negotiating and managing contracts with third party suppliers. They will be required to research and advise on all aspects of the banks Sustainability policy, as they affect the procurement and provision of a widely diverse range of products and services. The position will also include Carbon Footprint Management, Sustainable Material Substitution, Travel Mitigation and Manufacturing Worker Welfare on an international scale.
Key deliverables include:
  • The development and planned implementation of Supply Chain strategies that support the banks Sustainability programme
  • The establishment of effective communication structures to establish and share best practise in sustainable procurement across the group
  • To deliver a tool kit to support implementation at territory level and a monitoring and measurement framework to provide tracking of strategy implementation and effective reporting at functional and corporate levels
  • Development of a close working relationship with the Energy and Climate Change Manager and other colleagues within Sustainability team is essential
You will be required to:
  • Posses a high degree of expertise, knowledge and analytical skills in Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility issues in the Supply Chain
  • Be an experienced and effective negotiator at an advanced level and advise on negotiation strategy, supplier management and provide personal challenge and growth to support staff development across the bank
  • Respond to and provide solutions for numerous, diverse and complex procurement, contractual and logistical issues. Possess a strong understanding and working knowledge of commercial law
  • Benchmark strategy and implementation in relation to sustainability in the supply chain across industries to identify opportunities for improvement and acquisition of relevant best in class practices
  • Represent the bank on industry and subject matter based groups and committees to enhance understanding and advice on sustainability and ethics in procurement and purchasing issues associated with the UN Global Compact
  • Provide input and guidance on Sustainability to buyers and all colleagues to ensure that the banks sustainability and ethical trading objectives and other requirements are included within all supplier discussions and negotiations and that they are included in contractual documentation as necessary
  • Pursue strategic and global sourcing solutions that build on best in class sustainable solutions
  • Experience in Purchasing Management, in more than one role and across a range of products and services. 'Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply' qualification preferred
  • Be an effective leader and motivator. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to enable effective communication at the most senior levels
