All Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group
Secretariat: The CarbonNeutral Company
Chair: Colin Challen MP
The CarbonNeutral Company provides the secretariat function to the All Party Parliamentary Climate Change Group (APPCCG). The Group was launched in June 2005 with the aim of bringing parliamentarians and business leaders together to develop policy instruments to tackle climate change and is now one of the fastest growing groups in Parliament with over 250 members.
Since launching, the Group has been responsible for hosting a series of top level meetings and forums with speakers including Ex-Vice President of the United States Al Gore; Mikhail Gorbachev; the Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MP; Prof Sir David King, the Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor and Sir Nicholas Stern, Head of the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change covering a wide range of climate change issues affecting both government and business. The Group has also recently published its first inquiry entitled, “Is a cross party consensus on climate change possible or desirable?” the findings of which were presented to the three main political parties.
Internship Requirements and Responsibilities:
Working as part of the team at The CarbonNeutral Company and with Colin Challen MP’s office the successful candidate will:- Help organise and run Group meetings and forums – managing guest speakers, invitations, room bookings and catering
- Carry out event research, marketing, and generation of corporate sponsorship where appropriate
- Manage contracts and budgets for all events (venue hire, catering contracts)
- Liaise with event sponsors
- Research speakers or policy areas where necessary
- Respond to members queries on a day to day basis
- Manage collection of membership fees
- Maintain and update databases of members’ information
- Produce meeting minutes and quarterly newsletters
- Work closely with activities at The CarbonNeutral Company
Personal Specification:
·A confident and clear communicator with the ability to listen and consult with others
·Self-motivated and able to undertake a variety of tasks as required, working individually and as part of a team
·Highly organised with strong attention to detail- Able to remain calm and friendly when under pressure and whilst delivering to deadlines.
- Knowledge of parliamentary affairs and interest in environmental politics.
This position would suit a recent graduate keen to develop a closer understanding of politics and the policy process as well as the interaction between business, politicians and the public. This internship offers the opportunity to develop skills in event management, researching, and all areas of public affairs.
The internship will be based at the offices of The CarbonNeutral Company in Kings Cross, London.
Pay:
Travel and lunch expenses will be paid.

This is a fantastic role, involved in many interesting things - but why's it not a paid job? Surely we're looking for someone very talented to carry out an important role like this? - I don't get it?!
