Britain launches audit of natural resources

ENDS Europe Daily 2591 – July 23, 2008

The UK government has launched a survey of Britain's wildlife, habitats and ecosystems to guide government policy on environmental protection, including tackling biodiversity loss. The two-year project will give "the most comprehensive picture ever" of the country's natural environment and its benefits to society, the government says. In a speech on Monday, Environment Minister Hilary Benn said it will provide a "springboard for further action to protect and enhance our natural heritage". See government press release.
